Off to Figment!

June 11, 2011

Two hours away from getting on the ferry and it looks like rain. No matter, we have a tarp to cover our patchwork blanket, and maybe over the next 12 hours of sewing we’ll make it into a tent to keep us dry. I’m bringing a bunch of stuff I’ve been meaning to mend and my teaching brain. Here’s to the feeling of accomplishment when a non-sewer sews their first seam or puts their first button back on! Come mend, sew, hang out, explore. Come join us at Figment on Governor’s Island.

Call for hands!

We need your help: come add a patch on Thursday, June 2, 6:30-9pm at the Textile Arts Center.

In preparation for Figment 2011, our June 2 Mending Circle is officially transformed into “help Maya and Isa sew a giant patchwork quilt for us to sit on” time. Mending Circle will be set up on Governor’s Island for two whole days (June 11 & 12), so if you have something that needs mending help we’d love for you to join us there. In the meantime, we need to create something to sit on so we don’t all get grass stains on our bottoms, and the TAC folks came up with the wonderful idea of sewing a patchwork blanket that visitors could add to as they come sew with us on the island. We need to get this patchwork party started!

So all that is a long way of saying if you have a spare hour on Thursday evening to come add a patch we’d appreciate the help.

Also, in case you do get a grass stains on your bottom this summer, stay tuned for details on the August Mending Circle. Just trust me, it’s to dye for. 😉
